warpaths

Routes toward conflict

Warpaths is the plural of warpath, the route taken by warriors heading into battle.

The word comes from descriptions of Native American military expeditions but now appears almost exclusively in the figurative expression on the warpath, meaning aggressively angry or looking for a fight: The boss is on the warpath about the missing files.
