war in heaven
Angels battling angels
War in heaven refers to a cosmic battle between angelic forces, most famously the conflict in Christian tradition where the archangel Michael and loyal angels cast Satan and his rebellious angels out of heaven.
The phrase appears in the Book of Revelation and has become a broader term for any primordial struggle between good and evil forces in religious mythology.
Milton's Paradise Lost dramatizes the war in heaven.
