walking sticks
Ambulatory support aids
Walking sticks serve two quite different purposes depending on context.
The familiar one is a stick or cane used as an aid in walking, typically gripped at one end while the other contacts the ground.
Walking sticks are also insects of the order Phasmatodea, named for their remarkable resemblance to twigs or small branches—a camouflage that helps them avoid predators.
She collected antique walking sticks from estate sales.
The walking stick remained motionless on the branch for hours.
