popinjays
Conceited flashy dressers
Popinjays are vain, superficial people who are excessively concerned with their appearance or self-importance.
The word is old-fashioned and literary, carrying a tone of contempt: Those popinjays at court care more about their wigs than the welfare of the nation.
Originally, a popinjay was a parrot—the human sense comes from the bird's gaudy plumage and mimicking speech.
