Breaking bad luck
Unjinxing is the act of removing or reversing a jinx—attempting to neutralize bad luck that was supposedly invited by speaking too confidently about something.
When someone says Don't jinx it! after you've tempted fate, unjinxing might involve knocking on wood, taking back the statement, or other superstitious rituals: She spent the rest of the day unjinxing herself after bragging about her winning streak.
