uncountables

Things resisting enumeration

Uncountables are nouns that cannot be counted individually and therefore don't take plural forms or appear with numerals: water, furniture, information, advice.

Grammar distinguishes them from countable nouns—you can have three chairs but not three furnitures.

The term belongs to language instruction and linguistics, where the count/noncount distinction matters for article usage and verb agreement.
