Artificial playing surface
A turf field is an athletic playing surface made of synthetic grass rather than natural grass.
The artificial turf requires less maintenance than real grass—no mowing, watering, or reseeding—and holds up better under heavy use and bad weather.
Modern turf fields use rubber pellets or sand infill to cushion falls and simulate the give of natural ground: The soccer team practices on the turf field behind the gym.
