tree sit
Canopy occupation tactic
A tree sit is a form of environmental protest where activists occupy trees—often by building platforms high in the canopy—to prevent logging or land clearing.
The tactic forces confrontation: cutting the tree endangers the protester.
As a verb, to tree-sit is to participate in such a protest: She tree-sat for two years to save the old-growth redwood.
