A travel day is a day spent primarily in transit rather than at a destination.
The term appears in work contexts where employees distinguish days of actual work from days consumed by getting there and back: Tuesday was just a travel day—I didn't arrive until evening.
In sports, teams have travel days built into schedules between games in different cities.
