trading stamps

Redeemable store incentives

Trading stamps were small printed coupons given by retailers to customers based on the amount of their purchase, popular from the 1950s through the 1970s.

Shoppers collected these stamps, pasted them into booklets, and redeemed filled booklets for merchandise from special catalog stores.

S&H Green Stamps were the most famous brand.

The practice largely disappeared as retailers shifted to other loyalty programs, though some stamp programs persisted into the 21st century.
