trading pin

Trading pins are collectible lapel pins exchanged as souvenirs, especially at large sporting events like the Olympics or Little League World Series.

Teams, delegations, and sponsors produce distinctive pins that participants and fans swap with each other: We spent hours at the Olympic village trading pins with athletes from other countries.

The practice creates a social ritual around acquiring rare or desirable designs.
