trade sanction
Import ban measure
A trade sanction is a restriction one country imposes on commerce with another, typically to pressure political change or punish objectionable behavior.
Sanctions may ban specific goods, freeze assets, or embargo all trade entirely: The UN imposed trade sanctions on the regime.
Often used in the plural, as governments rarely deploy a single measure in isolation.
