tortie
Mottled orange-black cat
Tortie is an informal term for a tortoiseshell cat—one with a mottled coat pattern of black, orange, and sometimes cream, resembling the shell of a tortoise.
Nearly all torties are female due to the genetics of coat color inheritance.
Cat enthusiasts often describe torties as having distinctive personalities, sometimes called "tortitude." My tortie likes to supervise everything I do in the kitchen.
