tongue tie
Words won't come
Tongue tie is a condition where the strip of tissue connecting the tongue to the floor of the mouth is unusually short or tight, restricting the tongue's range of motion.
In infants, it can interfere with breastfeeding; in older children and adults, it may affect speech.
Medical term: ankyloglossia.
The verb tongue-tie means to render speechless: The question tongue-tied him.
Someone who is tongue-tied struggles to speak, whether from a physical condition or from nervousness and embarrassment.
