time-zones

Global hour divisions

Time zones are the regions of Earth that share a standard time, established because the sun reaches different longitudes at different hours.

The world is divided into roughly 24 zones, each offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

Scheduling across time zones requires arithmetic: The meeting is at 3 PM Eastern, so that's noon for me in California.

Time-zone confusion causes missed calls, late arrivals, and jet lag.
