through-hiking

Completing a trail

Through-hiking is hiking an entire long-distance trail from end to end in a single continuous journey, as opposed to completing it in sections over multiple trips.

The term applies especially to famous trails like the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail: She spent six months through-hiking the AT.

A through-hiker is someone who undertakes such a trek.
