the other place
That alternative location
A euphemism for hell, used when one doesn't wish to name it directly: If I don't mend my ways, I'll end up in the other place.
In British parliamentary usage, it refers to the opposite house—the Commons when speaking in the Lords, and vice versa.
The phrase also appears in university contexts, where Oxford calls Cambridge "the other place" and Cambridge returns the favor.
