terracotta clay
Orange-red pottery material
Terracotta clay is clay fired at relatively low temperatures to produce the characteristic reddish-brown ceramic material.
The term is somewhat redundant—terracotta itself means "baked earth"—but appears in contexts distinguishing the raw material from finished terracotta objects: She shaped the terracotta clay into a planter.
