tercets
Poetic verse triplets
Tercets are three-line units in poetry, either as standalone stanzas or as part of larger structures.
The term appears most often in discussions of formal verse—the *terza rima* of Dante's *Divine Comedy* uses interlocking tercets, and sonnets traditionally end with a closing tercet or pair of tercets.
The poem's final tercet brought the imagery full circle.
