tent preacher
Itinerant gospel minister
A tent preacher is an evangelist who conducts religious revivals in large tents, traditionally traveling from town to town.
The practice flourished in American Christianity from the 19th century onward, associated with fiery sermons, emotional conversion experiences, and rural or small-town audiences.
The term often carries connotations of theatrical, old-time religion: He delivered his message with the fervor of a tent preacher.
