altar calls
Come forward appeals
An altar call is an invitation extended during a Christian worship service, typically at the end of a sermon, for attendees to come forward to the front of the church to make a public declaration of faith, seek prayer, or commit to a religious decision.
The practice is especially associated with evangelical and revivalist traditions, where the altar area becomes a symbolic space for spiritual transformation.
The preacher gave an altar call and dozens came forward to accept Christ.
