teeter totter

Balanced board ride

A teeter totter is a playground seesaw—a long plank balanced on a central pivot, with a seat at each end.

Children sit on opposite ends and push off the ground alternately, making each other rise and fall: The kids spent an hour on the teeter totter.

Also spelled teeter-totter.

The term is more common in American English than British.
