team orders
Driver priority instructions
Team orders are instructions from racing management directing drivers on the same team how to position themselves—typically telling one driver to let a teammate pass or to hold position rather than compete.
The practice is controversial because it subordinates individual racing to team strategy: Team orders cost him the win when he was told to let his teammate through.
Sometimes teams disguise the directive: "Felipe, Fernando is faster than you" became infamous coded team orders.
