tea caddies

Loose leaf storage

Tea caddies are containers for storing loose tea leaves, traditionally small decorative boxes made of wood, ceramic, or metal.

The term dates from when tea was expensive enough to warrant a lockable container.

Today tea caddy refers to any airtight vessel for keeping tea fresh: She keeps her Earl Grey in a porcelain tea caddy.
