tagging out

Touched before safe

Tagging out is the act of touching a base runner with the ball or a gloved ball to record an out in baseball.

A fielder tags out a runner who has strayed from base or is attempting to advance: He tagged out the runner trying to steal second.

In wrestling and tag-team contexts, tagging out means slapping a partner's hand to switch places: She tagged out after two exhausting minutes in the ring.
