table-tipping

Ghostly furniture movement

Table-tipping is a séance practice where participants place their hands lightly on a small table, which supposedly moves, tilts, or raps in response to spirits.

Popular in 19th-century spiritualism, the phenomenon is generally attributed to unconscious muscle movements rather than supernatural forces.

Also called table-turning or table-tilting.
