syncytial

Fused cell mass

Syncytial describes tissue or structures in which multiple cells share a common cytoplasm, their boundaries merged or absent.

The term appears most often in medical contexts: respiratory syncytial virus, which causes cells to fuse together.

A syncytium—the noun form—functions as a single unit despite containing many nuclei, as in muscle fibers or certain embryonic tissues.
