butterfly doors
Upward-swinging car entries
Butterfly doors are car doors hinged at the top of the A-pillar that swing upward and outward, their motion resembling butterfly wings.
Unlike gullwing doors, which hinge at the roof and open straight up, butterfly doors angle away from the car body.
Found primarily on high-end sports cars: The McLaren F1's butterfly doors became iconic.
