subsidising
Providing financial assistance
Subsidising is the British spelling of subsidizing—providing financial support, usually from a government or institution, to reduce costs or keep something running.
A government might subsidise public transport or agriculture.
The word often carries a hint of criticism when the support seems wasteful or unfair: Why are taxpayers subsidising failing industries?
