subliming

Skipping liquid phase

Subliming is the present participle of sublime, a verb describing the process by which a solid transforms directly into a gas without passing through a liquid state.

Dry ice subliming into carbon dioxide vapor is the classic example.

The term also applies to the reverse process in some contexts.

In older or literary usage, subliming could mean elevating or refining something to a higher state, connected to the adjective sublime.
