string bands
Unamplified folk groups
String bands are musical ensembles built around stringed instruments—typically guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and upright bass.
The term usually refers to American folk and old-time music groups from the early twentieth century, before the genre was called country music.
The string band played reels and square dance tunes on the courthouse lawn.
