straight-pull

No rotation needed

Straight-pull describes a firearm action where the bolt moves directly backward and forward in a straight line, without the rotation required in turn-bolt designs.

This allows faster cycling: a straight-pull rifle, straight-pull bolt action.

The term also applies to bicycle brakes where the cable pulls straight rather than through a cam mechanism.
