state election
Provincial voting contest
A state election is a vote to fill offices in a state government, as opposed to federal or local positions.
State elections choose governors, state legislators, attorneys general, and other statewide officials.
In the U.S., these often occur alongside federal elections but follow each state's own rules and calendar: Turnout for state elections tends to be lower in off years.
