standing waves
Fixed vibrational patterns
Standing waves are wave patterns that appear stationary rather than traveling through a medium.
They form when waves of equal frequency traveling in opposite directions interfere with each other, creating fixed points called nodes (no movement) and antinodes (maximum movement).
Guitar strings, organ pipes, and microwave ovens all produce standing waves.
The standing wave on the string vibrated at its fundamental frequency.
