stair runner
Step covering fabric
A stair runner is a long, narrow carpet that covers the center of a staircase, leaving the edges of the steps exposed.
It provides traction, reduces noise, and protects the underlying surface from wear: We installed a wool stair runner to quiet the creaky steps.
Runners are typically secured with rods or adhesive.
