stage setting

Play's visual environment

Stage setting is the scenery, furniture, and props arranged on a theater stage to establish the location and atmosphere of a scene.

The term extends to any deliberate arrangement of context or circumstances: The summit's stage setting—flags, podiums, handshakes—was carefully choreographed for cameras.

Also called simply the set.
