spot me

Lend a hand

Spot me is a request for backup or assistance in a specific situation.

In weightlifting, it means standing ready to help if the lifter can't complete a rep: Can you spot me on this bench press?

More casually, it asks someone to lend money with an expectation of repayment: Can you spot me twenty bucks until Friday?

Both uses share the idea of temporary support when someone needs a hand.
