spare tube
Extra inner tire
A spare tube is an extra inner tube carried by cyclists in case of a flat tire.
Since patching a punctured tube roadside takes time and may fail, most riders prefer to swap in a spare and repair the damaged tube later: Always carry a spare tube on long rides.
The term appears in cycling, motorcycling, and any context involving pneumatic tires with inner tubes.
