soft toss
Easy batting practice
Soft toss is a baseball and softball practice drill where a partner gently tosses balls from the side for the batter to hit into a net or fence.
The slow, controlled tosses let hitters focus on swing mechanics without timing a pitched ball: We did soft toss for twenty minutes before batting practice.
The term sometimes extends to any easy, low-pressure situation.
