snuffers
Flame-ending scissor tools
Snuffers are a scissor-like tool for trimming or extinguishing candle wicks.
Before electric lighting, candles needed regular tending—the charred wick was snipped to keep the flame bright and prevent smoking.
The tool has a small box attached to catch the trimmed wick.
Now largely obsolete, snuffers appear mainly as antiques or in period settings: She used the silver snuffers to put out the candles.
