arid zones
Parched land areas
Arid zones are regions receiving little rainfall—typically less than 250 millimeters annually—where evaporation exceeds precipitation.
These areas include deserts and semi-deserts, characterized by sparse vegetation and extreme temperatures.
The term appears in geography, ecology, and climate science: Arid zones cover about one-third of Earth's land surface.
Agriculture in arid zones depends on irrigation.
