dry zones

Areas lacking moisture

Dry zones are areas where alcohol sales are prohibited or restricted, typically by local ordinance.

Some municipalities, Native American reservations, or neighborhoods ban liquor stores and bars entirely: The county has been a dry zone since Prohibition.

The term also applies to regions with arid climates receiving little rainfall, though this geographic sense is less common in everyday speech.
