snow field
Mountain's white blanket
A snow field is a broad, permanent expanse of snow, typically found at high elevations or in polar regions where summer temperatures aren't warm enough to melt the accumulation completely.
Snow fields often feed glaciers and may persist for centuries.
The term also applies more loosely to any large area covered in snow: We crossed the snow field below the summit.
