Above the treeline
The alpine zone is the region of a mountain above the tree line, where cold temperatures and harsh conditions prevent trees from growing.
Only hardy, low-growing plants survive here—grasses, mosses, lichens, and small flowering plants adapted to thin air and intense sun.
We hiked into the alpine zone where the landscape became bare rock and tundra.
