snap throw
Hasty infield throw
A snap throw is a quick, short-armed throw made without a full windup, used when speed matters more than power.
The term appears most often in baseball, where a catcher makes a snap throw to catch a runner stealing or a pitcher throws quickly to first base to keep a runner close: The catcher's snap throw beat the runner to second.
