smear test
Gynecological cancer check
A smear test is a medical screening procedure in which cells are collected from a body surface—most commonly the cervix—and examined under a microscope for abnormalities.
The cervical smear test, also called a Pap smear or Pap test, screens for precancerous changes and cervical cancer: Women are advised to get a smear test every three years.
The name comes from the technique of smearing collected cells onto a glass slide.
