slip noose

Self-cinching knot

A slip noose is a noose with a knot that tightens when pulled, forming a loop that cinches around whatever passes through it.

The design allows the loop to slide freely along the rope until tension is applied: He fashioned a slip noose to snare rabbits.

Slip nooses are used in trapping, hanging, and restraint.
