slideway

Machine tool track

A slideway is a track or channel along which something slides, typically a machine part.

In manufacturing, slideways are the precision-ground surfaces on lathes and milling machines that guide the carriage or table: The machinist checked the slideways for wear.

The term appears in mechanical engineering contexts where smooth, controlled linear motion is required.
