ski planes
Arctic landing craft
Ski planes are aircraft fitted with skis instead of wheels, allowing them to land on and take off from snow or ice.
They serve remote areas in Alaska, Canada, and polar regions where conventional runways don't exist: The ski plane landed on the frozen lake to deliver supplies.
Some have retractable skis or combination ski-wheel gear for varied terrain.
