shotgun offense
Wide receiver alignment
A shotgun offense is a football formation where the quarterback stands several yards behind the center to receive the snap, rather than directly under center.
This positioning gives the quarterback more time to read the defense and find receivers.
The formation is standard in passing situations: They went to the shotgun offense on third and long.
